Communion was never intended by God to be a funeral dirge. It was intended to be a time of joy and blessing. Too many times we emphasize the disciplines that come through partaking unworthily. But even the passage that pulls together most of the disciplines connected to the Lord's Table does not call the cup a cup of cursing. Instead, Paul calls it the cup of blessing. Why? Because this is a meal through which God loves to pour forth His blessings. When properly understood, God's people look forward to communion with great anticipation.
